The question

Employees to pay a bonus are in A2:A6 and the salary table is in C2:D6. Calculate each bonus (10% of salary) in F2:F6, looking up the salary with VLOOKUP.

The data

ABCDEF
1EmployeeNameSalaryBonus
2KaranAmit52000?
3RahulNeha61000?
4AmitRahul47500?
5NehaPriya58000?
6PriyaKaran66000?

The yellow cells are where your answer goes.

Show answer

Expected results:

  • F2 = 6600
  • F3 = 4750
  • F4 = 5200
  • F5 = 6100
  • F6 = 5800

How it works

Explanation: VLOOKUP returns the salary, and multiplying by 0.1 gives 10% of it. You can combine a lookup with any calculation.
Syntax: =VLOOKUP(A2,$C$2:$D$6,2,FALSE)*0.1
Karan earns 66000, so the bonus is 6600. Rahul earns 47500, so the bonus is 4750.
