Excel Logical Functions: Full List with Examples
These are all the Excel Logical functions on Cellgrids. Open any function for its syntax, arguments, a worked example and a free practice spreadsheet.
| Function | What it does |
|---|---|
| IF + AND | Combines two conditions inside IF — both must be true for the first result to be returned. |
| Nested IF | Chains multiple IF functions together to test several conditions in order and return different results for each. |
| Nested IF (3 levels) | Chains three IF checks in a row to sort a value into one of four categories. |
| IF + AND + OR (combined) | Nests AND and OR together inside one IF for a more complex multi-part rule. |
| IFS + AND | Uses IFS to check several combined (AND) conditions in order, with a fallback if none match. |
| IF + ISERROR | Checks if a formula would produce an error, and shows a fallback message instead if it would (an older alternative to IFERROR). |
| IF + ISBLANK | Checks whether a cell is empty and shows a placeholder instead of leaving the result blank. |
| IF + OR | Combines two conditions inside IF — only one needs to be true for the first result to be returned. |
| IF + ISNUMBER | Checks whether a cell actually contains a number before treating it as one, flagging bad data entry. |
| IF + TODAY | Compares a date against today's date to flag whether something is overdue. |
| IF + VLOOKUP (conditional lookup) | Picks which of two different lookup tables to search, based on a condition. |
| Nested IF + VLOOKUP (tiered lookup) | Picks from three different pricing/lookup tables depending on a customer's tier. |
| IF + LEN (input validation) | Checks whether a piece of text is exactly the expected length, useful for validating codes or phone numbers. |
| VLOOKUP + ISERROR (existence check) | Uses a VLOOKUP purely to test whether a value exists somewhere, converting the result into a clean Yes/No-style flag. |
